Hi and welcome to my website, Rocky Mountain Persians, I'm Susan. I grew up in Wyoming and eventually moved to Colorado where I reside with my family in the beautiful City of Loveland.

We have spent quite a bit of time developing a website that we feel is fun to visit, functional as well as educational. I hope you enjoy your visit to our website and searching for your next companion. When we developed our website, we felt that if we could answer just one question someone had about their Persian cat, it was well worth the time we spent to build it. I was raised in Riverton, Wyoming, and was the youngest of three kids. I have two older brothers, Joe and Brad. My brothers and I were all animal lovers. As a youngster I remember helping out in my parents pet store. My Mom tells me that we were a big help, but I can only imagine how much "help" we really were. My parents pet store was called the "Tropical Hut," to this day I can still remember the rows of fish tanks. My favorite part of being there was playing with the kitties. Before kitties became a part of my life our family had a German Shepard dog. In the photo on the right I am pictured with my Dad and our dog, Prince. Being so young, I don't really remember Prince, but know he went to live with a man who bred German Shepards not far from our home. I hear Prince produced some wonderful dogs that went on to assist with "law enforcement."

In the picture to the right, I was a proud six year old with my new little Siamese kitten that I had picked out when I went with my family to visit a family friend. I had named her Molly. She so special and when she grew, she assumed the position of "guard dog" by watching over "her kids" as we played in the backyard of our home. I remember my parents bred Molly and we had Siamese kittens for sale. This was my first experience with breeding kittens. Although I was still very young, I helped out taking care of these kitties. Molly was a great kitty and a wonderful playmate.

My next cat, a long haired solid black female adopted us. She was living in our garage when we came home from vacation one summer. I think someone abandoned a litter of kittens in our neighborhood becuase there were two other cats that looked just like her. After the huge challenge of getting my dad to accept that a cat had adopted us, she was finally welcomed into our home. I named her Shadow because everywhere I went, there she was in my shadow. We were the best of buddies and I still miss her to this day. After Shadow passed away we adopted a dilute calico female, Missy, pictured to the right. Missy continued to live with my parents when grew up and left home. Missy was about 17 years old when she passed away.

As an adult, my first cat was a blue tabby & white female, pictured to the right. For some reason I had the hardest time picking a name for her, eventually she became Momma Cat...........literally. Momma Cat was such an awesome cat, whenever we would go for walks in the neighborhood, Momma Cat would have to come with us. She was so darling, I miss her dearly. She had an unexplained illness; we tested her for everything my vet recommended, and although all the tests kept coming back negative, she got weaker and weaker. I eventually had to have her euthanized, I would definately say this was the hardest thing I ever had to do. I still get upset to this day thinking about her and how it felt to lose such a good friend.

My whole life I have loved animals and have held an extra special place in my heart for kitties. We got started breeding Persian cats after I received a Persian kitten for my birthday. I instantly fell in love with her, she was a little bundle of fur. I started reading everything I could find about Persian kitten development and the stages of growth. Although our first Persian didn't exactly meet the standard of the breed with her doll faced facial structure, I loved her dearly. As she grew into a darling Persian cat and matured, I considered breeding her, but I found it was impossible to find a breeder willing to offer stud service. I eventually gave up the idea of breeding our first Persian cat, Ms. Wiggles and had her spayed a short time later.

My mom who is also a cat lover fell in love with my girlfriends Ragdoll cat and decided she just had to have one in her life. After a lengthy search for a Ragdoll kitten for my mom, we chose to purchase one with breeding rights for the possibility of breeding her when she matured. Both my mom and I thought it would be great to have matching hobbies that we could do together so I started the search for my first Persian cat for breeding. I found an ad in the Denver Post newspaper advertising a solid black Persian male for sale and I made the phone call to inquire about him. The woman I found was Lisa Thostenson of Jordanalisa Persians cattery. Not only was she wonderful to work with, she was very informative and I trusted working with her. Lisa has been a wonderful mentor and is someone I am proud to call my friend.

Eventually I got up the courage to get involved with showing Persian cats. My first show kitty was so wonderful to work with. We were buddies and trusted each other so that helped ease my fears of showing in a cat show. Cheyenne was a black & white bi-color Persian female. Our first show was the Colorado Cat Fanciers 4^th of July, Sixteenth Anniversary Cat Show which was held in Longmont, Colorado in July of 2003. Since that first cat show the fear of showing has gotten less as our experience has grown. I still get the stomach butterflies on the opening day of cat shows but have grown to enjoy the competition involved in showing. I have met so many wonderful people in our hobby of breeding and showing Persians and thank the ones who have taken the time out of their busy lives to help us.
